Flashback: TNSTC-Tirunelveli’s Madurai to Nagercoil BPR built by SETC

In addition to Madurai to Nellai BPRs, we also had Madurai to Nagercoil BPR. Though we had many buses in this route, this particular bus standout from the crowd..

Reasons below..

  • Body built by SETC.
  • Comfortable bucket type seats.
  • Design is unique and these SETC built buses were there with Madurai and Nellai divisions only.
  • Finish was well above rest of the private/TNSTC built buses.
  • Vinyl flooring done similar to AshLey SLFs in Madurai/CBE/Chennai.
  • Moreover, this is the only bus which had hanging mirrors in this period.

Flashback: Only Dindigul region bus to cross Salem

TN57 N 2228

TNSTC-Salem started Kumily-Bangalore service via Salem in Aug’15. In same lines, TNSTC-Madurai’s Dindigul region started Hosur-Theni/Cumbum service for some time. To our knowledge this is the only Dindigul region(TN57) service to run north of salem till Hosur.

Flashback: Only TATA Bus built by Dindigul region

To our knowledge, TNSTC-Madurai’s Dindigul region didnt have any TML with them. Infact before 4-5 years, TNSTC-Madurai received good number of TML buses. But all of those were retained in Madurai region and none were seen running with Virudhunagar/Dindigul regions.

TN58 N 2113. This is little unique as this was built by Vathlagundu body building unit of Dindigul region. Though they didnt own any TML, they built this and sent it to Madurai region. This is one very long runner which ran in Tirupur-Nagercoil route. Typical running pattern of this bus was Madurai-Tirupur-Nagercoil-Madurai. With few hours rest, they will start the trip again.

Flashback: SETC Registration number history

When TN01 N series was started, TTC was registering their buses from 1 to 1000 reg.nos and later they were alloted from 6000. From 2007, this batch allotment was stopped and SETC was asked to share their reg.nos along with MTC. Due to heavy increase in number of buses that is getting added to MTC, TN01 completed N and it moved to AN.

During this period SETC moved from 6000 to 45XX and it became difficult for us to identify the buses based on the reg nos. They started registering 1 bus each from 46XX series. If people have 45XX or 50XX, 52XX, please share it.

Suggestion from our side is MTC can continue to use TN01 and SETC can move to TN01 EN (EXPRESS NATIONALIZED) or they can also use TN02 N or TN07 N which was used by DCTC, JJTC/RGTC earlier.
