Free Bus Travel for Senior Citizens in MTC
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday announced that senior citizens above 60 years can travel for free in all non-A/C buses of metropolitan transport corporation in Chennai from February 24.
The senior citizens will be issued 10 tokens per month. There will be no deadline for applying for this concession. The scheme will be extended to other parts of the State based on the response from the public.
Making a suo motu statement under Rule 110 in the State Assembly, the Chief Minister took pride in announcing that with the free bus travel concession for senior citizens, the AIADMK had fulfilled all of its promises given in its manifesto for 2011 Assembly elections.
She said the application for this scheme can be had from bus depots and can also be downloaded from transport department website.

The filled forms with Proof attached can be handed over to MTC officials in working hours from 08:30 AM – 01:30 PM. and 02:00 PM – 07:00 PM and after verification priceless tickets will be issued. Forms can be handed over in Bus-stands and Depots.
Bus-stand : Broadway, Central, Guindy Estate, K.K.Nagar, Mandaveli, Velacherry, Saidapet, Pallavaram, Tambaram, T.Nagar, Tiruvanmiyur, Vadapalani, Iyyapanthangal, Villivakkam, Ambattur, Anna Nagar (west), Koyambedu (CMBT), Ayanavaram, Tollgate (sungachavadi), Ambattur O.T., Perambur, Redhills, M.K.B.Nagar, Avadi, Thiruvottriyur, Vallalar Nagar.
Depots : Adyar, Vysarpadi, Madhavaram, Perambur, Alandur, Saidapet, Adambakkam, Chrompet 1, Tambaram, Tandayarpettai 1, Basin Bridge, Central Depot, Ennore, Padiyanallur, Besant Nagar.

Sir Don’t know about the status how the ticket can be used as daily pass 50/- but in the news Free tickets / pass issued are for 10 days in a month only, we will get the right info and reply you soon.

After enquiring with officals, you have to submit the form to nearest depot, they will seal it and return to you, with that you can show it to conductor he will issue you token you have return it after your trip completes. only 10 tokens for up and down for a month will be issued. you can use it only on your a – b travel point and vice versa., not like the daily 50 Rs pass.

While the government is spending on many unnecessary things, why cant they just provide free travel for all the respected elderly.

Instead of free bus pass the corporation can issue tickets in two denominations Rs.3/- for short distances and Rs.5/- for long distances to all senior citizens who carry ID card issued by the corporation.

I just need one more clarification, It is applicable only for chennai. how about the senior citizens living in other places in Tamilnadu except chennai ?

The same procedure only to get passes it is not renewable. you can get it from nearby busstand or depots

I went to Guindy Depot to collect free pass. The discourtosious clerk say iLLA. Why this disrespect to senior citizen.

On 29-12-2017 the transport clerks collected all razon cards from o the public senior citizens for issuing free coupns
for the month of January 2018 at 8 am and they refused to receive the cards after 8 AM. This is
not the usual procedure and the public was suffered and reported the higher authority. Please take necessary
action.
