A small token of Gratitude to the selfless foot soldiers of SETC / TNSTC.

The month long intermittent showers finally culminated in rains unheard in the history of Chennai leading to flooding and inundation of areas, leaving scores of people homeless. Land masses turned islands overnight, throwing normal life out of gear and pushing people to head to safer places for shelter. With most approaches to Chennai being cutoff, people heading out of the city made beeline to train and bus stations.

Special buses are being run by state transport corporations to aid the needy. Performing duty in such testing times with little rest and risk to operations, TN State Corp crew’s efforts need special mention. First-hand account from the crews reveals heart rending scenes that were witnessed during the runs they did ferrying people to safety. Best part is the happiness that the crew have in helping out the hapless passengers in hours of distress.

“Just finishing his schedule from Nagercoil to Chennai, bus was blocked at Tambaram and forced to return Nagercoil Driver Senthil from TNSTC Nagercoil Ranithootam 1 Depot took a rest of just 2 hours there to head back to Nagercoil. End of journey scenes made him very emotional. Passengers showered their thanks hugging and kissing him as he was their man Friday.” this happened on Dec 2 2015.

On Dec 3 2015 Special crew “Driver Santhanam from TNSTC Nagercoil Ranithootam 1 Depot started from Maduravoyal at 2AM only to find the GST route blocked. Taking a detour through Vellore, TV Malai and Trichy, he could make it to Nagercoil at 6:30 PM. Mr Santhanam could not control himself detailing on how the passengers conveyed their heartfelt thanks for his tireless support in helping them.”Such heart rendering accounts abound.

TNSTC Blog Team decided to chip in and boost the morale of the foot soldiers of TNSTC’s who having no second thoughts are toiling day and night ferrying passengers to safe havens. Our team member Senthil from Bangalore bought a truck load of biscuits, rusk, condensed milk and water bottles from Bangalore and made arrangements for it to be ferried to Chennai with a help of an NGO Mr.Krishna Srinivasan.

Back at chennai our team members Arun, Umari Saravanan, Anand, Selvakumar took up the task of moving the food items to Thiruverkadu Amman Nagar where a bridge recently broke down, and then to CMBT for distribution to crew of buses braving heavy rains pounding the bus station. The smiles and satisfaction doing this made their day. Finally not to forget to mention our Chennai pickup truck driver Mr.Rajendran , a noble soul who waited patiently and assisted in distributing the supplies on hearing upon our moto and requesting us to bear the fuel expense for his pickup alone .
