The Institute of Road and Transport Technology (IRTT) Chithode

The Institute of Road and Transport Technology (IRTT) is an engineering institution in Chithode, a panchayat town near Erode in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, run by the Transport Department of the government of Tamil Nadu and listed under category I colleges by the Directorate of Technical Education.

The Institute Of Road and Transport Technology was established in 1984 as an automobile research-oriented engineering college. It is run by all the transport corporations of the government of Tamil Nadu and is affiliated with Anna University, Coimbatore. It is located on a 350-acre (1.4 km2) campus. The institute was started by M. G. Ramachandran, the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. It is run by All Transport Corporations of Government of TamilNadu. The Institute is located in a sprawling lush green campus of 350 acres. It provides a congenial atmosphere for Technical Education. It is 15 km from Erode Railway Station and Half a km from the NH-47 between Bhavani and Chithode. The Institute offers 7 Under Graduate Degree courses in Engineering in various disciplines and 2 post graduate courses M.E Structural Engineering and Master of Computer Applications. The Institute has excellent infrastructure, well-equipped laboratories, library and highly qualified faculty members. The Institute is well known for its technical excellence, modern facilities, good performance track record and resourcefulness.

IRTT Medical College at Perundurai.

The long standing desire of the Transport Corporation employees to have a Medical College and Hospital to provide specialised medical treatment to people in the area and to the transport employees and their families was fulfilled by the State Government in  the year 1986. The Medical College started functioning in the campus from 1992 onwards. A 600 bedded modern Hospital was constructed and started functioning from September 1994 onwards. This college is affiliated to Dr.  M.G.R. Medical University

The Perundurai Medical College and Hospital is located in a posh green landscape of 327 acres, which is 20 km west from Erode on the Erode-Coimbatore National Highway. The very location of Perundurai is in the closer vicinity of major Industrial Estates / towns / cities like Tirupur, Coimbatore where the possibility of having more occupational diseases. The Institute being located in a rural setting will go a long way in meeting out the health needs of the socio-economically downtrodden population of the neighboring districts. Transport TNSTC workers can have a free check up yearly once at Perundurai Medical College.
