Tambaram New Busstand

Ta­m­baram and its adjo­ining areas heaved a sigh of relief that all city bu­ses parked on Grand Southern Trunk Road (GST Road) would get shifted to the new bus stand at Tambaram San­at­orium, it came to light on Wednesday that these buses would continue to be parked on the road and the new bus stand would accommodate only the long distance buses.

Chief minister J. Jayal­alithaa inaugurated the new bus stand constructed at a cost of Rs 5 crore, through video conferencing from the secretariat on Wednesday.

According to sources in Tambaram municipality, only 19 buses can be parked at any point of time in the bus terminus and the complex will house 30 shops. “We will operate buses to long distances like Kanch­ee­puram, Vellore, Arni, Ben­galuru, Chittoor, Wallajah, Sriperu­mb­udur and Vallakottai from here,” the sources said.
