PRTC Buses

PRTC (Pudhucherry Road Transport Corporation) operates buses in the union territory of Pudhucherry. Mainly in the cities of Pudhucherry(Pondicherry), Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. My first PRTC experience happened an year back when i travelled from Karaikal to Coimbatore.

It also has volvo buses operating between Pudhucherry-Bangalore and Thirunallar-Chennai via Karaikal, Pondy.

PRTC also has got JNNURM buses. At present JNNURM buses are operated in Pudhucherry alone. Soon they will be operated in Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam too. JNNURM buses of PRTC looks very much similar to TNSTC and MTC JNNURM AL buses. Saw the JNNURM buses in the routes 5A, 6A, 7A and 14A.

  1. The JnNURM buses are at present 26 in no. Of which 20 are operational in various routes. The routes range from 3A to 21A. Only one old town bus is plying in the route 2A. 34 more buses are at present in Villupuram, which must be claimed by PRTC after giving the state share for these buses. The 34 include 10 Volvo AC SLF buses too. Initially they had planned to operate 6 of those 10 buses in inter-state routes. But they dropped the idea and are going to ply all the buses in city route. Initially 4 buses will be inaugurated in different routes next year.

  2. one PRTC bus is running between coimbatore to karaikal every evening. The tickets has been booked by Mayura Travels Gandhipuram ANear SETC bus stand. When we try to book tickets they say that tickets will be booked only two days in advance. When we go 2 days before journey to mayura travels for booking they say that all the tickets was sold out. I fear their is a suspicion in that and it is not transparent.

    • No sir, such high is the demand for PRTC in all the routes. You need to wait in the morning time as early as 7 am to get the tickets…
It is a instant hit by the time it was introduced and is going full since then….
