Commercial Taxes Minister M.C. Sampath attended the bhoomi puja for the construction of the regional office building of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation here on Sunday.
Collector R. Kirlosh Kumar, TNSTC general manager Karunanidhi and other officials participated. The Minister had sanctioned a sum of Rs. 25 lakh from the MLA’s Local Area Development Fund for the construction of the regional office building.
On the occasion the Minister also flagged off three new bus services as follows: from Ulleripattu and Karaimedu seven trips would be operated to Villupuram; the Cuddalore — Pakkam Crossroad town bus service (T-19) would be extended to Kandamangalam via Nalmalmarudhur (six trips), and, 14 trips of town bus services would be operated from Cuddalore and Panruti to Melkumaramangalam.
The Minister said that these services would make easier the commute for the people of those areas, particularly students, office-goers and those who need health care.

Time-saving bus service between Vellore, Tirupattur
The Tamil Nadu State Road Transport Corporation (TNSTC), Vellore Region, has introduced a ‘time-saving service’ (TSS) for its buses operating between Vellore and Tirupattur with effect from January 1.
S.K. Selvanayagam, General Manager, TNSTC, Vellore Region, told The Hindu that TSS envisaged plying the buses between the two centres in 100 minutes (1 hour and 40 minutes) against the regular service which takes 135 minutes (2 hours and 15 minutes). The TSS would have an intermediate stop only in Ambur. Five vehicles have been pressed into service for TSS, each operating six singles per day, he said.
The TSS would be operated as per the following timings:
From Vellore: 5.50 a.m., 7.15 a.m., 8 a.m., 8.50 a.m., 10.38 a.m., 11.30 a.m., 11.45 a.m., 2.05 p.m., 2.45 p.m., 3.53 p.m., 5.20 p.m., 5.35 p.m., 6.45 p.m., 8.15 p.m., 10.10 p.m.
From Tirupattur: 5.10 a.m., 6.18 a.m., 7.30 a.m., 8.35 a.m., 9.15 a.m., 10.55 a.m., 11.50 p.m., 12.35 p.m., 2.20 p.m., 3.08 p.m., 4.40 p.m., 5.27 p.m., 6.20 p.m., 8.05 p.m., 8.30 p.m.
The TNSTC General Manager said that a similar TSS would be introduced between Vellore and Chennai shortly, and advance reservation facility would be provided for it.

Depots present in other states are termed as interstate depots. These depots helps us in providing much needed interstate connectivity with TN state cities/towns with the neighbors.
Following are intestate depots of TNSTCs
1. Trivandrum – SETC.
2. Pondicherry – SETC
3. Pondicherry – TNSTC-Villupuram
4. Karaikal – TNSTC-Kumbakonam
Inter division/Region depots:
1. Palani-1 and Palani-2 of Tirupur region. Earlier these two depots are with Coimbatore and Erode region. When Tirupur region was formed, these were transferred to new Tirupur region. Palani comes under the operational area of TNSTC-Madurai’s Dindigul region.
Palani-1 operates services mainly from Palani to Coimbatore, Pollachi, Ooty and Palani-Kerala Interstate services.
Palani-2 operates services to Tirupur, Erode district and Salem. It also operates Palani-Mysore interstate services.
2. Karur depot of Erode region present in Karur. Karur is part of TNSTC-Kumbakonam’s Karur region.
1. Chidambaram depot of Nagapattinam region. Chidambaram is part of TNSTC-Villupuram’s Cuddalore region.
2. Madurai depot of Karaikudi region. Services are operated from Madurai to Kumbakonam division operational areas.
3. Trichy depot of Pudhukottai region.
Tirupuvanam depot of Madurai region. Operates city services from Part of Sivagangai district areas to Madurai city.
Tirupathur depot of Dharmapuri region. Tirupathur is part of TNSTC-Villupuram.
Salem(Hasthampatty) depot of Dharmapuri region. Salem is part of Salem region. But Dharmapuri region owns a depot here for operational and maintenance reasons.

Tamilnadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha inaugurated 464 buses yesterday and inducted them to the fleet of TNSTCs at a function held in Central Depot, Chennai. In the 2011-12 Budget TN govt announced that it will purchase 3000 buses. In the 464 buses, 389 were brand new buses and 75 of them were refurbished buses. 250 New routes were also introduced. One of the sample refurbished bus pics are posted here with details.
