5612 Special buses for Pongal – TN Govt

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday announced that 5,612 special buses would be operated during Pongal holidays so that people working in Chennai and other parts of the State could visit their native places easily to celebrate the festival with their near ones.

Specials From Chennai:
Special buses would be operated from CMBT to all district headquarters, Jayalalithaa said on January 11, a total of 1,280 special buses would be on service while 1,315 and 312 special buses would be pressed into service on January 12 and January 13 respectively. On January 14, special buses would be operated as per the requirement.

Special from Rest of Chennai:
January 11 (730 buses), January 12 (745 buses) and January 13 (1,230 buses).

Besides, to return from their native places to their working places after the festival is over, equal number of buses would be operated.

MTC will operate 250 special buses in the city and its suburban areas from 14-Jan-13 to 16-Jan-13.

Online ticket reservation system would be enabled for reserving tickets for the buses which are operated for more than 300 km during the Pongal holidays.

16 reservation counters would be opened at CMBT for advance booking of tickets.

675 new buses and 286 new routes added to TNSTCs

Chennai, 22-Nov-12: Today Tamilnadu chief minister Selvi J.Jayalalitha flagged of 675 new buses and 286 new routes in MTC/SETC/TNSTCs in a function held at MTC’s Central depot.

New buses allotted:
MTC – 28
SETC – 3
TNSTC-Villupuram – 169
TNSTC-Salem – 137
TNSTC-Kumbakonam – 69
TNSTC-Coimbatore – 174
TNSTC-Madurai – 10
TNSTC-Tirunelveli – 85

Three new bus routes for Dharmapuri

Three new bus routes have been inaugurated from Palacode in Dharmapuri district on Thursday.

The new routes inaugurated were Panchapalli-Chennai via Palacode, Palacode-Harur and Palacode-Coimbatore. Inaugurating the new routes, K.P. Anbazhagan, former minister and Palacode M.L.A, said the induction of 464 buses of State Transport Corporation by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa would benefit the people of the State.

He added that the new routes would meet the long-pending demands of people. The direct bus service inaugurated to Chennai from Panchapalli via Palacode would benefit the students pursuing professional courses in Chennai.

Likewise, hundreds of labourers working in Coimbatore and Tirupur would also benefit from the direct bus service to Coimbatore from Palacode, he said.
